Skull Shaver's Super Bowl spot with Pitbull had already passed a million views. To launch it in Europe, the brand needed it to exist in French, Spanish, German and Italian, without losing its humor or its energy.
The challenge: move a campaign across borders without losing what makes it work. The client handed us the original English video and its script. Everything else we produced: script adaptation, casting, recording, sync and post-production. We handled the whole localization into French, Spanish, German and Italian, end to end.
Adapting the humor, not just translating the words. The film runs on humor, and humor does not cross languages as it is. So we rewrote the script in each language to keep the idea, the rhythm and the comic timing, taking into account what actually makes people laugh in each culture.
Several characters, four languages, one identity. The film does not rest on a single voice: one lead male role and several supporting characters. We built a separate cast for each language while keeping the whole consistent. The project also grew our network of multilingual talent: the artists cast for it have become reliable people we work with regularly.
The real technical challenge: making the sound match. The recordings took place in several professional studios, and every booth has its own acoustic signature. After editing and syncing the dialogue precisely to picture, our sound engineer rebuilt the consistency across every take, so the four versions sound like one and the same production, at the same broadcast quality.
